The Sierra Club

We are a regional group in the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club.  Our members are residents of San Carlos and Belmont, California. The Loma Prieta Chapter is one of the many chapters that constitute the national Sierra Club and includes San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties.  Our purpose is to enjoy the many local walking and hiking opportunities, to build and maintain trails, to preserve the environment that makes this area so special, and to encourage others to be a part of these activities.

We meet each month except July and August. Our usual meetings include a hike and then a potluck supper followed by a program. These are normally held on the third weekend of the month.  We emphasize rather easy hikes close to home and programs relevant to our two cities (with a few exceptions for variety)

We have a volunteer program with the City of San Carlos Parks and Recreation Department.  We have built and continue to maintain trails in two city parks: Big Canyon Park and Eaton Park.

We try to keep abreast of Belmont and San Carlos city proposed projects that have environmental consequences. We work with the cities to make these projects environmentally responsible.  We are active in providing assistance on regional and national environmental issues and projects also.

We welcome volunteers to assist in trail building and maintenance. We do this in the morning on most Tuesdays.

There are also opportunities for volunteers to keep abreast of  City Council and Planning Commission agendas to identify local issues of an environmental nature.

Anyone who wishes to participate in our volunteer activities can e-mail to sierra.club@comcast.net   or you may call and leave a message for Bob at 650-592-2166.
